From October 13 to 17, 2025, Ocean University of China (OUC) hosted the International Marine Summer Camp, an initiative building upon the activities of the International Alliance of Marine-Related Institutions (IAMRI) following its Annual Meeting on May 29 of this year. This summer camp is designed to further the United Nations’ vision for sustainable ocean development and to reinvigorate the alliance. It aims to strengthen faculty-student exchanges, enhance talent cultivation among member institutions, and bolster the alliance’s role in advancing international collaboration in marine research and education, as well as in the development of global marine networks.
At the opening ceremony on October 13, Professor Liu Yong, Vice President of OUC, delivered a welcome address. On behalf of the university, he extended warm greetings to the participants and highlighted OUC’s outstanding achievements in ocean development and global marine cooperation. Professor Liu emphasized that the International Marine Summer Camp presents a valuable opportunity for participants from IAMRI member institutions to engage in academic exchange at OUC and to experience the rich local culture of Qingdao.

Participants from four IAMRI member institutions took part in the camp: Kasetsart University, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Nha Trang University, and the University of Portsmouth.
This five-day camp featured themed lectures from OUC faculty and distinguished professors from IAMRI member institutions. In addition, the program included an introduction to Chinese traditional culture, campus tours, laboratory visits, and excursions to prominent enterprises in Qingdao. The camp aimed to foster international friendships, provide participants with insights into marine-related knowledge, and offer them the opportunity to experience the unique culture of Qingdao.

On October 17, the International Marine Summer Camp 2025 successfully concluded. As a key initiative within the IAMRI framework for faculty and student exchange, the summer camp not only deepened participants’ understanding of China but also infused new energy and youthful dynamism into the advancement of international marine science cooperation, education, and the cultivation of innovative talent.
